The official start of the heating season arrives on October 1 and continues for six months. So before you know it, you’ll be reaching for your sweater and turning the thermostat from “cool” to “heat.”
But we’re not quite there yet, which is a good thing because you still have time to get your home ready for all the colder weather that’s ahead of us here in southern New Jersey and northern Delaware and Chester Counties in Pennsylvania. (We also service a large portion of New Castle County in Delaware). Here are a few suggestions that may save you some headaches—and money—down the road.
Annual maintenance on your heating system helps to maximize operating efficiency, improve your home’s comfort level, helps to prevent breakdowns and can save you money on fuel. A tune-up also allows the oil heat technician to detect and fix minor problems before they get the chance to turn into expensive and inconvenient repairs over the winter.
Since Lawman’s does not have a staff to offer this type of service, we look to partner with different HVAC companies to help our customers with this type of request. For our customers who live in Delaware or Pennsylvania, we have partnered with Wilson Oil & Propane because they have consistently proven to be our most reliable partner. They also treat our customers very well.
However, we have been unlucky to this point in finding a reliable HVAC company in New Jersey. We have tried different companies, but the service level has not lived up to our standards of customer service. If you know a good HVAC company in the Gloucester, Salem and Camden county area of New Jersey, please let us know and we will be happy to reach out to them.
Now is a great time make sure your thermostat is working properly, and to learn how to program it if you don’t know how to already (it will be a great investment of time, considering proper use of your thermostat could save you 10 percent or more on your heating bill). If you don’t have a programmable thermostat, make the smart call and install one – it will more than likely pay for itself in the first year of use.
Most homes in our service area (especially older ones) are under-insulated, which is too bad when you consider that insulation is one of the most cost effective ways to lower both your heating and cooling bills. For further tips on where and how much to insulate, review this information from the U.S. Department of Energy (D.O.E.).
Air leaks are the enemy of energy efficiency year-round, and now is a great time to address them, when it’s not too cold or too hot. Check around your doors and windows to make sure they’re draft-free. If they aren’t, use caulk, weather-stripping or door sweeps to plug any gaps. For more tips on air sealing, go here.
Why keep pouring more money into your old oil-fired boiler or oil furnace? It’s better to invest in a new, high-efficiency oil heating system that can keep your home more comfortable while lowering your fuel costs for years to come.
Get your oil tank filled before the start of the heating season so you’ll be all set to go as soon as you need heat in your home. With some of the best heating oil prices in New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania, Lawman’s Oil has you covered.
With great pricing you will love, you will be able to enjoy life more and worry less about your heating oil expenses. We make thousands of heating oil deliveries every single year to customers in many communities, offering the most complete, competitively priced, and reliable heating oil supply services you’ll find anywhere in the region.
We also donate 1¢ of every gallon of heating oil we sell to the American Breast Cancer Foundation, which provides individuals in financial need, their families, and their loved ones with education, support, and access to early detection.
