If you have a properly maintained heating oil boiler or heating oil furnace, you know that it does a great job of keeping your home warm and comfortable throughout our cold winters. In fact, heating oil systems get your home warm faster and more efficiently than other heating fuels because of heating oil’s high BTU content.
But Lawman’s Oil has taken that advantage a step higher. For years now, we have only delivered B20 Bioheat Plus® Fuel to our customers.
Bioheat fuel is a blend of ultra-low sulfur heating oil combined with premium biofuels made from renewable resources such as animal fats, recycled restaurant cooking oils and plant oils. Our B20 Bioheat Plus fuel is made from locally sourced products, which aids in reducing waste within our communities.
The B20 part of B20 Bioheat Plus fuel stands for what percentage of the fuel is made with biofuels. Our Bioheat fuel is made with 20% renewable biofuels. This high level of biofuel is why B20 Bioheat Plus fuel burns extremely clean, generating less greenhouse gas emissions than a natural gas system.
Because it is cleaner burning, Bioheat Plus fuel helps to increase system efficiency, which reduces your home heating expenses while still keeping your home comfortable.
B20 Bioheat Plus also leaves fewer deposits on your system’s internal parts. That helps to reduce wear and tear, meaning you will likely have fewer breakdowns and a longer life expectancy for your boiler or furnace when compared to running it with traditional heating oil. And while B20 Bioheat Plus fuel can do all these things, it basically functions the same way that conventional No. 2 heating oil does. That’s why homeowners don’t need to add anything to or modify their boiler or furnace in any way.
Heating oil has always been one of the safest home heat sources because it’s nonexplosive and the fuel in its liquid state cannot ignite. There is also a very low risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, much lower than in homes with natural gas systems.
But what most people don’t realize is that the advent of Bioheat fuel has made home heating oil even safer. That’s because Bioheat fuel has a higher flash point, or ignition temperature. It’s just one more thing that homeowners who use Bioheat fuel can feel good about.
Please continue to contact Lawman’s Oil for reliable B20 Bioheat Plus fuel deliveries. For the convenience of Lawman’s customers, you can go online to request your heating oil delivery.

If you have a modern heating system and you’ve have been diligent about getting regular tune-up service done, you’re well ahead of most folks when it comes to maintaining heating oil efficiency during the winter.
But why stop there? It also makes sense to look beyond your boiler or furnace and find other ways to make your home as energy efficient as possible. Here are some cost-effective ways to help you conserve energy.
We’ve put together a round-up of what you can do to stop cold air from getting into your home–and warm air from going out.
If you have a warm-air system (furnace), check your air filter regularly, cleaning or changing it when needed. A clogged, dirty filter robs your furnace of efficiency by making it overwork to keep your home warm. That means higher heating bills and more wear and tear on your furnace. The same principle about air filters applies in the summer if you have a central air conditioning system.
During the cold months, keep curtains and shades open in sun-exposed rooms to absorb all that free solar heat energy during the day. Don’t forget to close your shades and blinds at night so you can retain some of the heat you gained.
An open fireplace damper is like an open window; close it when you are not using your hearth so heated air doesn’t go up your chimney. You should also move any furniture, draperies or rugs away from your radiators, baseboards or heating vents. This helps improve air flow and keeps heat freely circulating into rooms.
Investing in a smart programmable thermostat pays off. You’ll save both time and money. When used correctly, a smart thermostat can pay for itself in just a short time. If you choose a Wi-Fi thermostat, you can control your home’s temperature from your smartphone.
In the winter, the optimal setting is 68°F when you’re at home. Program this setting down to the 60°F range when you’re asleep or out of the house. According to the U.S., Department of Energy, you can save as much as 10% a year on heating and cooling by simply turning your thermostat back 7°-10°F for eight hours a day from its normal setting.
Lawman’s Oil helps you save money too! If you’re a homeowner in New Jersey, Delaware, or Pennsylvania who wants fast, affordable, and hassle-free low-cost, high-quality heating oil, order your fuel from Lawman’s Oil.
We offer COD fuel, the lowest possible prices, prompt deliveries and premium high-quality B20 Bioheat Plus® fuel. For the convenience of Lawman’s customers, you can go to our online portal to make your heating oil delivery requests.
Many factors affect your fuel use, including the outdoor temperature, the size of your home, the quality of insulation in your home, the efficiency of your furnace or boiler and your family’s own heating preferences.
But here’s one basic rule of thumb that will help to give you a general estimate. The median size of a new single-family home built in 2018 was nearly 2,400 square feet. If outdoor temperatures average about 32° over a 24-hour period, that size home would consume about six or seven gallons of heating oil per day. Naturally, if temperatures remained above freezing and you live in a smaller size home, you would use less heating oil per day.
On top of the heating oil tank, you’ll see a clear glass or plastic cube that is marked with numbers that resemble the gas gauge of your car: F, ¾, ½, ¼. A red marker or float commonly indicates the amount of fuel left in your tank. If the float is at the bottom of the gauge or not visible at all, your tank is empty or nearly empty.
If you think the gauge is not working properly, please contact us. You never want to guess how much oil is left in your tank.
While we can make some deliveries within a day in cases of extreme emergency, it is always best to give us at least three days’ notice. The three working day advance notice is necessary for scheduling your home into a delivery route.
We suggest giving us even more notice if there is a storm coming or we’re locked in a long cold spell.
Lawman’s Oil cannot be held responsible for runouts if you do not provide us enough notice for a delivery.
Here’s what you can do to help make sure that your heating oil delivery can be made as efficiently as possible during the winter months.
Our drivers thank you in advance!

The dog days of August might seem like the unlikeliest time to think about purchasing heating oil, but ordering your fuel in the off-season could save you money.
No one can predict when heating oil prices will rise or fall since prices are subject to a number of factors that can change quickly. This includes the price of crude oil, geopolitics, world events, the state of the economy and the weather. But filling your tank before the heating season officially begins on October 1 will almost always give you more bang for your buck.
Less expensive heating oil isn’t the only benefit to ordering fuel in the offseason. By keeping your tank full during the warm weather months, you could also help avoid issues with your heating oil storage tank too.
When your oil storage tank contains more air than fuel, moisture from the trapped air collects inside the tank, forming condensation on the tank’s walls. A damp tank is the perfect breeding ground for microorganisms that eventually create fuel line-clogging sludge. These conditions could also corrode the tank over time. With a full tank, there is less chance of condensation forming in the first place. This improves your tank’s overall lifespan and prevents costly heating system repairs or premature failure of your oil tank.
Of course, if you’ve been relying on Lawman’s Oil for your fuel needs, you’re already saving money. We sell only top-grade B20 Bioheat Plus® fuel—but without the inflated price that many other heating fuel companies in our region may charge.
Our B20 Bioheat Plus® fuel is a blend of ultra-low-sulfur heating oil and 20% renewable biodiesel that’s made from organic and recycled products like soybean oil, used cooking oils and inedible corn oil.
The most refined grade of heating oil available, clean-burning Bioheat Plus fuel has virtually no negative impact on the environment. Bioheat Plus fuel produces near-zero levels of particulate matter during the combustion process.
Plus, as the amount of biofuels in Bioheat Plus fuel is increased in the coming years, this highly refined home heating oil will move closer and closer to becoming a carbon-neutral fuel.

What do you call the fuel that we deliver to your home and pump into your tank? Heating oil? Fuel oil? Maybe you just call it oil. Have you ever described it as Bioheat® fuel?
First, a lot of people tend to interchange heating oil with fuel oil when describing their home heating fuel. That’s perfectly OK, but be aware that the term fuel oil is not limited to home heating oil. Fuel oil is a broader term because it refers to any petroleum product that can power a home heating system or an engine. For instance, diesel fuel is a good example of a fuel oil.
Both fuel oil and hone heating oil are sourced from crude oil during the refining process, which separates crude oil into different “fractions” while removing impurities. The lighter fractions of crude oil eventually become propane, butane, and petrochemicals.
Slightly heavier fractions are used to produce gasoline, kerosene, jet fuel, diesel fuel, and No. 2 home heating oil. But that’s not all. There are also heavier fractions refined from crude oil that are transformed into No. 4 or No. 6 heating oils. These heavier grades of heating oil are commonly used to fuel the large heating systems found in commercial and industrial buildings, schools and hospitals.
Lawman’s Oil has delivered heating oil blended with renewable biofuel for a few years now. The B20 part of our B20 Bioheat Plus fuel stands for what percentage of the fuel is made with biofuels. That means that our Bioheat fuel is made with 20% biofuels. This high level of biofuel is why B20 Bioheat Plus fuel burns extremely clean—generating less greenhouse gas emissions than a natural gas system.
The most refined grade of heating oil available, Bioheat fuel is one of the cleanest burning heating sources for your home. It reduces greenhouse gas emissions significantly and no changes to your existing heating oil system are necessary.
The biodiesel blend in Bioheat fuel is composed of various organic products, including vegetable oils, animal fats and even algae.
Biodiesel is considered a biogenic fuel that eliminates carbon output. By contrast, when traditional fossil fuels that do not contain biodiesel are burned, they take carbon that was once stored in the soil and put 100% of that carbon into the atmosphere.
The combustion of biofuels and other biogenic energy sources recycles carbon-dioxide emissions through renewable plant materials and other biomass feedstocks. That’s why you’ll keep hearing a lot about net-zero carbon emissions and carbon neutral fuels in the years ahead.

While prices will always rise and fall, homeowners who rely on heating oil to keep warm will consistently get great value for their energy dollars. Here’s why.
Heating oil produces a tremendous amount of heating energy, providing both efficiency and comfort. For every gallon of heating oil consumed, nearly 140,000 Btu’s of heat are produced. That’s the equivalent of about 70,000 60-watt lightbulbs! It’s also far more heating energy than what natural gas, propane gas or electricity can generate. Here’s how we know this.
Energy or heat content can be used to compare energy sources or fuels on an equal basis. Fuels can be converted from physical units of measure (such as weight or volume) to a common unit of measurement of the energy or heat content of each fuel. For example, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) uses BTU as a unit of energy content, and has calculated these sample BTU conversion factors:
Technology has also brought great improvements in heating oil equipment efficiency, which that has reduced annual fuel consumption by as much as 40%. Naturally, this has saved heating oil consumers a lot of money on fuel.
Plus, the Bioheat Plus® fuel we deliver is cleaner burning than conventional heating oil, which helps to increase system efficiency even more and reduces your home heating expenses, all while keeping your home warm and comfortable.
B20 Bioheat Plus fuel leaves fewer deposits on your system’s internal parts. That helps to reduce wear and tear, meaning you will likely have fewer breakdowns and a longer life expectancy for your oil boiler or oil furnace than compared to operating it with traditional heating oil. And while B20 Bioheat Plus fuel can do all these things, it functions pretty much the same way conventional No. 2 heating oil does. That means you don’t need to modify your boiler or furnace in any way.
As far as modern heating oil equipment like oil boilers and oil furnaces, new systems now have efficiency ratings as high as 95%; this provides homes with more warmth for less fuel.
Many new heating oil boilers use energy-saving controls that greatly reduce fuel usage during mildly cold weather and provide a more even heat with fewer temperature swings.
Plus, high-efficiency heating oil furnaces feature variable speed motors that use about 80% less electricity than older motors and provide more consistent airflow and temperatures.
New heating oil systems are also much smaller than older ones. The average boilers and furnaces today are compact yet powerful, and similar in size to a three-drawer filing cabinet.

Condensation can be a common problem for heating oil tanks during the summer. Hot, humid days and cooler nights create the perfect atmosphere for condensation buildup to form inside your tank. And if your storage tank is aboveground, outdoors and in an unshaded area, it’s especially vulnerable to condensation.
To avoid condensation build-up inside your storage tank, it’s best to keep your tank full during the warm months. Don’t worry, your heating oil won’t spoil or go bad if it sits in your tank unused for a couple of months.
After water forms on the bare walls on the empty area of the tank, it drips down and sinks to the bottom of the tank because water is denser than heating oil. There, it becomes an ideal environment for bacteria and other microorganisms.
Over time, these organisms turn into sediment. One problem is that sediment, also known as sludge, can get into your fuel lines and clog them. This will cause your heating system to shut down.
If you’re not on our automatic delivery schedule, call us to request a fill-up so we can help you head off any condensation problems with your heating oil tank. You can also order your heating oil online .
Automatic heating oil delivery is a free service offered by Lawman’s for all customers with aboveground heating oil tanks.
We use a wireless tank monitor to know exactly how much fuel is in your tank. A delivery will be scheduled when your oil tank is about one-quarter full. This takes away the hassle of having to check your tank and order your fuel. It also lowers the risk and expense of running out of oil.
There is no need to schedule and wait for deliveries, and you’ll avoid the expense and hassle of having your heating oil system tested and primed for restart, which needs to be done anytime a runout occurs.

If you’re a long-time heating oil customer, you probably know a lot about the fuel that keeps you and your family warm. But here are five interesting facts about the “new” heating oil that you may not know.
Advancements in both fuel quality and heating equipment have made heating oil more clean-burning than ever before. First, Lawman’s Oil only delivers B20 Bioheat Plus® fuel. This is a mix of ultra-low sulfur heating oil blended with 20% premium biofuel made from renewable resources. The use of Bioheat fuel lowers greenhouse gas emissions and puts home heating oil on track to becoming a carbon-neutral fuel. It has already been proven that B20 Bioheat Plus fuel emits fewer greenhouse gas emissions than natural gas! Read more about getting a heating oil delivery from Lawman’s.
Heating oil generates nearly 140,000 Btu’s of heat for every gallon burned. An equivalent amount of natural gas only produces about 100,000 Btu’s of heat, and an equivalent amount of electricity generates a paltry 3,413 Btu’s.
Why does heating oil reign as a leader in energy efficiency? The flame in a heating oil system burns much hotter than other energy systems can generate. This produces more heat and warmer air or water, leading to evenly distributed heat throughout the house. When the outdoor temperatures are in the single digits, that powerful heat output can help keep your home as cozy as ever.
Second, technology has also brought great improvements in heating oil equipment efficiency that have reduced annual fuel consumption by as much as 40%. This has saved heating oil consumers a lot of money on fuel.
Bioheat fuel is sourced and produced right here in the United States, supporting local farmers, local industries and local economies. The U.S. biodiesel and renewable diesel industries now support about 65,000 U.S. jobs and more than $17 billion in economic activity each year.
The production process puts excess plant oil and animal fats to good use, diverting waste products from landfills. Food production is never sacrificed for fuel in the creation of Bioheat fuel.
Bioheat fuel has a significant advantage over other green home heating products: it’s available right now and reduces greenhouse gas emissions every day.
Bioheat fuel burns more cleanly and more efficiently than conventional heating oil. So, you’ll be using less fuel to get the same amount of warmth, and your heating system will last longer. You’ll also likely find that you need fewer repairs on your system. You may also be able to extend the time between system maintenance. All of this amounts to savings!
Any real estate agent can tell you that the biggest obstacle in selling a home that uses heating oil often revolves around the oil storage tank. But that obstacle can easily become a nonissue if the home has a modern, aboveground oil tank.
There have been big improvements in heating oil tanks over the years. One of the most important is double-walled construction with an outside layer of corrosion-proof galvanized steel. This keeps the chance of a costly leak to a minimum. Other innovations include:
A heating-oil storage tank gives homeowners the ability to safely store an adequate supply of heating oil that’s ready for immediate use whenever the need for home heating arises.

If you ended the season with plenty of heating oil in your tank, you may be wondering if your fuel will still be good when you turn your boiler or furnace on again in the fall.
No worries. Your heating oil will be fine. The average life span of home heating oil ranges between 18 and 24 months. In comparison, regular gasoline only has a shelf life of three to six months.
However, if you ended winter with a near-empty tank (a quarter full or less), you should get a fill-up to prevent warm-weather condensation from building up on your tank walls. This could damage your tank.

Lawman’s Oil only delivers B20 Bioheat Plus® fuel. This is a blend of ultra-low sulfur heating oil combined with premium biofuels made from renewable resources such as animal fats, recycled restaurant cooking oils, algae, and plant oils.
Our B20 Bioheat Plus fuel is derived from locally sourced products, which aids in reducing waste within our communities. As ultra-low sulfur Bioheat fuel becomes more widespread in the future, home heating oil will move closer and closer to becoming a carbon-neutral fuel.
B20 stands for the percentage of the fuel that is made with biofuels. That means that our Bioheat fuel is blended with 20% biofuels, which the industry designates as Bioheat Plus Fuel. This high level of biofuel is why B20 Bioheat Plus fuel burns extremely clean.
Let’s start with the environment. Our Bioheat Plus fuel burns cleaner than natural gas because it generates fewer greenhouse gas emissions. Environmental issues continue to be raised about methane leaks coming from the processing of natural gas. (Methane is a greenhouse gas and the main component of natural gas.) Methane has the capacity to trap so much heat in the atmosphere that over one century, one ton of this gas causes 32 times as much warming as one ton of carbon dioxide.
Besides the environment, there is no question that heating oil with a biofuel mix is a much safer fuel option than natural gas.
With Bioheat Plus fuel, you can safely store fuel on your property with no dependence on underground pipelines. It cannot explode—even if you drop a lit match into it. Bioheat Plus fuel is also much safer in the case of a carbon monoxide leak because you will get a warning sign about a malfunction—unlike with natural gas.
The use of Bioheat Plus fuel has made home heating oil even safer! That’s because Bioheat Plus fuel has a higher flash point, also known as ignition temperature. It’s just one more thing that homeowners who use Bioheat Plus fuel can feel good about.
Finally, Bioheat Plus fuel is a much more efficient heating fuel because it generates about 40% more Btu of heat per gallon than an equivalent amount of natural gas.

Most of our customers like the convenience and protection of our automatic delivery service. (More about that later). But for those who prefer to keep control of watching the level of their fuel tank, we are ready and able to oblige. Just remember a few important points:
Here is a refresher on how to read your oil tank gauge and how to be certain it’s working properly. IMPORTANT: you should contact us to order more fuel when your tank gauge reaches the ¼ mark.
On top of the tank is a clear glass or plastic cube that is marked with numbers that resemble the gas gauge of your car: F, ¾, ½, ¼. A red marker or float commonly indicates the amount of fuel left in your tank – if the float is at the bottom of the gauge or not visible at all, your tank is empty or nearly empty.
To make sure the gauge is working, carefully remove the outer case and gently press the float down. If it bobs back up to the original position, the gauge is working. If the gauge is not working, contact us and let us know. The last thing you want to do is to start guessing how much oil is left in your tank.
There’s a reason why most of our customers take advantage of our automatic heating oil delivery service. This is a proven method that allows us to manage your fuel supply, freeing you up to handle other important household tasks during the heating season. Combined with a wireless tank monitor, this allows us to be accurate about your fuel needs and lets us make timely deliveries.
With our automatic delivery system, we can estimate how much fuel your home will typically use based on how cold it is outside. If you have a tank monitor also, we’ll get readings to show us exactly how much oil is left in your tank.
We will deliver fuel automatically to you, usually when your oil tank gets to be one-quarter full. The result: minimal chance of a run-out, no more calling for a delivery and no more monitoring your fuel levels on your own.
So, instead of having to call us every time you need more heating oil, you don’t have to do anything! Our driver will simply come to your home and fill your tank based on the schedule we have built for you.
There is no need to schedule and wait for deliveries, and you’ll avoid the expense and hassle of having your system tested and primed for restart—something that is required after a run-out. There is no extra charge to be on our automatic delivery schedule.
